Thank you to everyone who came out to our Christmas party. Lots of good food, desserts and fun times. Kids had a blast. It was an awesome time. Congrats to our award winners. Lukas received an award for Wrestling - State and New England Champion 2016-2017, Calvin received an award for Wrestling - New England Champion 2016-2017, Greg Perry received an award for Wrestling Coach of the Year 2016-2017, and Jeremy Barboza received an award for Boxing Coach of the Year 2016-2017.

Great day at New London Takedown Tournament. Nine wrestlers and nine medals. Calvin and Lukas both took home some 1st place Gold, with three tech falls each. James, Cameron, and Joey each had some wars in their final match and took home some 2nd place Silver. Killian in his very 1st tournament also took 2nd place Silver. Zach, Lucas, and Jesse all battled hard and brought home some 3rd place Bronze. Great job by all. Our coaches and parents are so proud of these young guns. Team Strike Zone would like to welcome Kirkor Papasian to our coaching staff. Kirkor holds the rank of black belt in the art of Tewhontatienas (Catch Wrestling), the rank of brown belt in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) and the rank of brown belt in SAW (Submission Arts Wrestling) under Mike Martelle.
Kirkor has an eclectic approach to grappling and utilizes techniques from Jiu-Jitsu, Catch Wrestling, Sambo, and Judo. Some of his favorite techniques are leg locks and flying armbars, of which he has many wins with. Kirkor is a regional and national grappling champion with many expert titles from NAGA. His proudest victory was during the 2015 New Haven NAGA Championships, where he defeated a 4th degree BJJ black belt by a knee bar. Kirkor has trained many competitors to the expert level as well as championship belts and as a coach Kirkor has won three NAGA team cup awards. With Kirkor as our BJJ/Grappling coach at Strike Zone, we are destined to win more Titles and Team cup awards. Welcome to the family Kirkor Papasian!

An Evening of Amateur Boxing

Holland Ahern wins his 1st Muay Thai fight. Great match against a tough opponent. Dan Darling also fought in his 1st Muay Thai fight. Close match against a much bigger opponent and was probably fight of the night. Strike Zone is proud of these guys!!!

Repeat of last week, with Calvin and Lukas looking like they are on a mission. Both with three matches and three wins. Both brought home some GOLD! Cam also brought home some Gold after four matches, with one overtime war. Way to scrap kid. Getting better every tournament. Lucas had the biggest weight class of the day and it was loaded. He wrestled awesome today, with 5 matches he just missed the medal round with a 4th place, but man did he look good. Good things to come from this kid. Joey's weight class was crazy. Everyone was so equally skilled that everybody was beating everybody. Joey just missed the podium and took 4th, but had four matches and ended up beating the kid who took 2nd. Figure that one out. Joey did what none of the other kids did today. He was chucking kids with headlocks all day. Might have to change his name to the Throwing Samoan. Proud coaches and parents!!!

Strike Zone Wrestlers were busy in Bristol CT today. We had seven wrestlers and won six medals: 3 - Gold, 2 - Silver, 1 - Bronze. Calvin and Cameron "The Bash Brothers" and Lukas all took home Gold. Lucas and Killian grabbed some Silver and James pulled out a big win to snatch a Bronze. Raleigh battled hard with Big heart but missed the medal round. Every week these kids get better. Great weekend for Strike Zone!!!

James, Raleigh, Zach, and Remo all took home Bronze medals today. Raleigh was like the energizer bunny, never stopping and outscored all his opponents in the 3rd period. Remo with not even a month training wrestled in his 1st tournament wins a medal, that's crazy! Zach qho wrestled up 20 pounds battled with some huge kids to earn his Bronze. James had a wicked tough bracket and lost a 3-1 Heartbreaker to the eventual Champion, best strategic match of the day. Great job from these wrestlers and also to Coach Greg and Coach Jeremy. Team work makes the Dream work.

Awesome day for Strike Zone at NAGA. Brian Swope won Gi and No-Gi in Expert Division to take home two belts. Kurtis Froling and Alex Leandri both won Gold in Gi and No-Gi in their divisions. Will Kenowski won Gold in Gi and Silver in No-Gi. Holland Ahern won Gold and Eli Legossie won Bronze in No-Gi in their divisions. Alex W. had some great matches but missed the medal round. Thanks Coach Kirkor Papasian for getting them ready and thanks to Julian Papasian for coaching. Strike Zone is proud of all of you!
Also, congratulations to Alex Leandri on her blue belt. She was never submitted during her white belt competitions. Let's see how long she can keep the streak going!

Strike Zone's Holland Ahern WINS his first boxing match. Great test, he took the fight on 3 days notice at super heavyweight. Great win against a big dude. Congrats kid, real proud.
Strike Zone Wrestling's very 1st invite to Marshwood's New England Championships. Out of 70 teams we took 5th place in the Bantam division. The whole day was awesome.
Lukas was 1st place NE Champ with three pins and remained undefeated the whole season.
Calvin was 1st place NE Champ with three pins.
Cameron exceeded all expectations, reaching the finals but lost a 4-2 heartbreaker and took home 2nd place.
Lucas was in beast mode today coming away with a 3rd place medal.
Khyree and Mateo both fought their way into the medal round taking home 4th place medals.
Lucian, Nyarah, Joey M., Jesse and Dominic gave it their all but missed the medal round.
Our coaches and parents are so proud of these kids. They have come so far in such a short period of time. Great job T.S.Z.
